What pet relocation actually costs in India

Domestic pet relocation in India costs roughly ₹9,000–₹55,000 depending on distance and mode, and international relocation from India costs roughly ₹85,000–₹4,50,000 per pet. The largest single variable is not your pet's weight. It is the volumetric weight of the crate, followed by destination-country requirements such as rabies titre testing and quarantine.

An IATA-compliant crate must let your pet stand fully upright without their ears touching the roof, turn around completely, and lie down naturally. Measure length from nose to tail base (A), floor to elbow (B), width at the widest point (C), and floor to top of head or ears while standing (D).

How to bring your pet into India (NOC explained)

Every pet entering India needs an advance No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Animal Quarantine and Certification Service (AQCS), applied for before the flight. Your import must fall under one of three pathways (Transfer of Residence, Re-import, or a DGFT short-stay licence) and filing under the wrong one results in rejection.

Brachycephalic (snub-nosed) breeds face genuinely elevated respiratory risk in aircraft cargo holds, and many airlines restrict or refuse them outright, especially above about 25°C. For Pugs, French and English Bulldogs, Boxers, Shih Tzus, Pekingese, Persian and Himalayan cats, escorted train travel or a dedicated road van is usually the safer choice within India.

Your pet's first flight, day by day

In the ten days before a pet's first flight: familiarise the crate daily, keep the routine boringly normal, confirm the vet certificate falls inside the airline's validity window, and freeze the water bowl the night before. Feed a light meal four to six hours before departure, never withhold water, and never sedate.
